OIL PAINTINGS

Painter and artist, Peter Arvidson built his reputation with his unique style of naif representation combined with jewel-like colors and imagery reminiscent of the works of Paul Klee. Arvidson’s works have always displayed a highly developed sense of color as well as great sophistication in the color harmonies he creates. His recent pieces tend toward his “color field” series of purely abstract works. These pieces are painted in loose grids and concentric squares that are often monochromatic with related colors gently introduced and juxtaposed. Some of these paintings evoke horizons and landscapes, while others tend toward musical and life rhythms. Creating these works is a meditative process with concentration on the the nuances of color and repetitive mark-making. Peter Arvidson died in 2021.
