Golden Donut Blair Thornley

Rice Polak Gallery Welcomes New Contemporary Artist: Blair Thornley

It’s that time of year again when I welcome the new artists that will be joining the gallery. I am ecstatic to introduce you to Blair Thornley. I have been following Blair for many years and am crazy about her work. Here is a sampling:

“Queen of Birds” by Blair Thornley

Blair Thornley has transformed the magic of her illustrations into paintings that showcase her quirky view of the world. Raised on the East Coast, Thornley studied art in Florence Italy and later attended New York’s Parsons School of Design. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Atlantic Monthly, Forbes, Ray Gun and other national publications.

“My approach to drawing and painting is largely intuitive, rarely planned — although it is based on many years of careful observation. I like to see what I can imply rather than spell out, avoiding literal rendering as much as possible and focusing on emotion, movement, gesture, and attitude.”

“Size Nine” by Blair Thornley

The gallery is now open on Saturdays, online and of course by appointment. In the coming months I will be introducing you to our new artists so please stay tuned and of course please visit our website as new work by all of our artists continues to arrive daily!
